Bombardier Plans to Fill 500 U.S. Jobs Despite Trump Threat

Bombardier plans to continue hiring in the United States, with around 500 open positions to be filled, despite a threat from U.S. President Donald Trump to restrict the Montreal-based aerospace company’s access to the U.S. market.

Industry sources said Bombardier aircraft can still be delivered to U.S. customers, while the aerospace sector was not included in the latest retaliatory measures announced by the United States against Canada.

A White House official said the Trump administration is preparing possible actions involving Bombardier. The situation comes amid an escalating trade dispute between the United States and Canada.

Concerns over Bombardier potentially losing access to the U.S. market, which represents about half of its sales, have prompted some Republican lawmakers to contact the White House.

Republican Senator Roger Marshall said he would work to protect Bombardier jobs in his state, where the company employs around 1,500 people. Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas also said he had contacted the Trump administration regarding Bombardier’s contribution to the state.
