Boston Scientific is pursuing a long-term restructuring effort to improve efficiency and reduce costs while continuing to invest in growth. The plan includes workforce reductions in some areas alongside ongoing hiring in strategic parts of the business
Medical device manufacturer Boston Scientific has approved a company-wide restructuring program designed to lower operating costs while supporting its long-term growth strategy.
According to a regulatory filing, the company's board approved the plan on July 21. The initiative includes optimizing its supply chain, relocating portions of manufacturing across different facilities, and making organizational changes throughout the business.
Implementation is expected to begin this year, with most of the restructuring scheduled for completion by the end of 2029.
The company said the plan will result in workforce reductions in certain areas. At the same time, it intends to continue recruiting for business segments experiencing growth while reallocating resources to meet changing global demand.
Boston Scientific estimates the restructuring will generate pre-tax charges of $700 million to $800 million, with $600 million to $700 million expected to be cash expenditures.
Once the program is fully implemented, the company expects annual operating expense savings of approximately $500 million. It said a significant share of those savings will be directed toward future growth initiatives.
Boston Scientific is scheduled to report its second-quarter financial results on July 29, with investors expected to closely monitor the performance of its cardiovascular device portfolio.
