Imperial Brands is planning workforce reductions across several functions in the U.S. and Europe as it seeks to lower costs. Some ITG Brands positions are also expected to be outsourced, while planned European redundancies remain subject to consultation.

Imperial Brands is preparing to eliminate thousands of jobs across key markets, including the United States and Europe, as the tobacco company looks to reduce costs, according to Bloomberg News.

The first stage of the workforce reductions is expected to affect human resources, finance, procurement and supply chain employees at ITG Brands, Imperial Brands' business covering the U.S., Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

A second round is expected to involve legal, marketing, and insights and intelligence teams. Bloomberg reported that affected employees are scheduled to be informed in April, with the reductions expected to begin around the middle of the year.

Imperial Brands said the changes would eventually affect its operations across its global markets, but the company did not disclose how many positions would be eliminated.

Some positions at ITG Brands are also expected to be outsourced to strategic partner Capgemini before the end of the year. The company has additionally been in discussions with relevant European Union bodies regarding planned redundancies, which remain subject to consultation.

Imperial Brands had approximately 25,800 employees worldwide at the end of 2025. Its workforce reduction plans come as the company faces higher costs and challenges affecting the traditional cigarette market.
