India’s Job Postings Rise in July After Three-Month Hiring Decline

India’s formal job market showed signs of recovery in July, with job postings increasing 1.2% after declining for three consecutive months. According to the latest data from Indeed, postings were also 8.3% higher than a year earlier and remained 84% above pre-pandemic levels, although hiring trends differed considerably across sectors.

Healthcare Hiring Shows Strong Growth

Healthcare and care-related positions were among the strongest areas of hiring growth. Job postings increased across nearly 80% of occupations over the past three months, indicating broader improvement in hiring demand.

The occupations recording some of the largest increases included:

Medical technicians: postings increased 30% Childcare: postings increased 26% Physicians and surgeons: postings increased 26% Therapy roles: postings increased 25%

Callam Pickering, Senior Economist at Indeed APAC, said the recovery was gradual, while noting that India's job postings remained significantly above pre-pandemic levels and continued to perform better than other markets tracked by Indeed.

Technology Hiring Remains Under Pressure

The improvement in overall hiring was not reflected equally in technology-related roles. Several technology categories recorded declines in job postings over the past three months.

These included:

IT infrastructure, operations and support: down 24% Software development: down 18% Data and analytics: down 14% IT systems and solutions: down 11%

Despite the recent declines, technology job postings remain above pre-pandemic levels, although their recent growth has been weaker than the broader national trend.

AI Demand Expands Beyond Technology Roles

Artificial intelligence is also becoming more visible across India's job market. Employers are increasingly including AI-related requirements in roles outside traditional technology positions.

Indeed's analysis found that around 6.6% of job titles tracked in India included meaningful AI references during the March 2026 quarter. This figure has doubled over the previous year and nearly quadrupled over two years.

Non-technology occupations represented 42% of AI-related job titles, compared with 39% a year earlier and 29% two years earlier. The figures indicate that AI-related skills are increasingly appearing in a wider range of occupations.

Hiring Outlook Remains Stable

The July increase in job postings indicates that India's formal employment market may be starting to stabilise following the decline seen earlier in the year. While hiring performance continues to differ across industries, overall job postings remain well above pre-pandemic levels.
