Samsung's workforce changes are tied to the relocation of its U.S. consumer electronics headquarters and reflect differing performance across its business segments. While its semiconductor operations continue to benefit from AI demand, the consumer electronics division remains under pressure.
Samsung Electronics has reduced jobs across its U.S. consumer electronics operations as part of the relocation of Samsung Electronics America (SEA) headquarters from New Jersey to Texas.
The company told Reuters that 739 positions in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, are affected by the headquarters move. Samsung said most impacted employees have been offered opportunities to relocate, while others have exited the company.
In Plano, Texas, around 100 employees, including members of the mobile division, were also let go, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Internal documents reviewed by Reuters indicate that employees were informed on June 30 about an enterprise-wide workforce reduction that would have a significant impact. LinkedIn posts reviewed by Reuters also showed that more than 30 employees, including senior sales and marketing personnel in New Jersey, Texas, and other U.S. locations, recently announced their departures from the company.
The workforce changes come as Samsung's semiconductor business continues to benefit from strong AI-driven demand, while its consumer electronics business faces pressure from rising chip costs. The company said the headquarters relocation is designed to improve collaboration by bringing more teams together within a growing technology and AI ecosystem.
Samsung added that there is no broad global restructuring underway within its consumer products business. As of the end of 2025, Samsung Electronics employed 11,770 people in the United States, including workers in its semiconductor operations.
Separately, Samsung SDS America has notified authorities that 179 positions in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, could be affected due to the relocation of its North American headquarters. Samsung said those changes are related to the office move and are not part of layoffs or restructuring.
